All over for another year, and a big sigh of relief from all those involved in the many many months of planning, especially as the vast majority of feedback so far has been positive. Once again, it was all worth it!
We first met in January to begin planning the show, and by March we were meeting regularly with North Down Borough Council, PSNI and District Policing Partnership in order to ensure that the show met the expectations set by the previous two years' shows; the loss of Stuarty (god rest his bachelor soul) from the planning team meant that it was going to be a big challenge. By June we'd a fair idea of how we'd like the show to be, and apart from a couple of disappointments in the run up to the day (most notably the cancellation of the sound off, and unavailability of the TA climbing wall and shooting range) everything went as planned.
Staff were on hand from 7am, and by 9am the cars started to arrive - and what a selection of truly impressive motors they turned out to be! Plenty to cater for everyone's taste, with modified, ice, performance, euro, kit cars, supercars, harleys and trikes all on display. There were also the trade stands to browse, and the PSNI information trailer together with a selection of their big performance pursuit vehicles. Entertainment throughout the day was provided by Big Show from the modified Red Bull Dodge. Reporters and photographers from both FastCar and Slick mag were in attendance also, so look out for future features on the event!
The thing that marks Cruise Control out as different from other car shows is the message behind the day, and this year the NI Fire and Rescue Service, Ambulance Service and PSNI combined to help reinforce this message with a simulated response to a road traffic accident. The PSNI helicopter (which arrived at a rate of knots from Aldergrove within minutes of being requested) airlifted the 'victim' to safety. Let's hope we never need to call on these services for real.
As the day drew on, the judges were faced with the difficult task of trying to pick 'winners' from the incredibly high standard of motors in attendance, and all entrants were also asked to vote for their 'peoples choice' car of the show. I'll include a list of the winners when I can find it

.
Once the trophies were handed out, it was time to leave, and quite a crowd gathered to watch the spectacle of around 150 top quality motors leave the arena and head for home.
So, a big thanks from BangorCruise to all those traders and owners who put in a lot of effort and brought along their pride and joy to make the show what it was, your entry fees have helped raise a significant amount of money (I'm not sure what the final count was, but it's certainly in the region of £1500+) for two very deserving causes (Road Trauma Support, and the Ulster Hospital's Renal Unit).
A special thanks also to the BangorCruise members and staff that generously gave up their time both in planning and then running the event, they'll all be looking forward to the first Cruise Control 08 meeting (due in the next couple of weeks

).
