RECORD ENTRY LIST CLOSES FOR JIM CLARK RALLY

A remarkable total of over 300 entries have been accepted for the 2006 Jim Clark Rally. It ensures that the roads of Berwickshire will between Friday 7th and Sunday 9th July host the biggest weekend of rallying in Britain.

With entries closing after an exceptional number of more than 350 crews had applied to compete in the 10th running of mainland Britain’s only closed road rally, the organisers have expressed their delight at the astounding level of support they have received for one of the most popular weekends of motor sport in the country

“Our only disappointment is having to turn so many away,” said Rally Manager Colin Pagan. “We have worked hard to accommodate as many as possible by altering the numbers in some events, but ultimately our road closure timings only allow a certain amount of flexibility, and we’ve squeezed that to the maximum. We’re just sorry that we’ve had to say ‘no’ to so many, including some regulars and some of our own club members. At least we’ve managed to put a reasonable number on the reserve list. An entry list like this reminds one of the early days of the Jim Clark as a loose surface event, and indeed the heady days of rallying in the 60s and 70s. We’re sure we’ll live up to our billing as a “Great Weekend”.

This year’s Jim Clark Rally will comprise five separate events, including its largest when some 136 crews will compete in Sunday’s Reivers Rally for the Scottish National and local championships. The International Rally, a round in both the British and Irish national championships, takes place over Friday and Saturday. The entry list has now been seeded and it will see the WRC cars of the Irish series leading the way at the head of the field as 21 special stages on the roads of Berwickshire await.

Available accommodation within 50 miles of the Rally’s Kelso headquarters is now said to be at a premium as the final countdown begins for the 2006 Jim Clark Rally.
